Calvin's Corner # 3

A new year is dawning and I’m back with a new edition of Calvin’s corner – bringing you top tunes from the world of progressive house music.

Let’s take a look back on what has been released over the last few months and a look into what the future brings of releases on vinyl.

Lemon 8 (Harry Lemon) has done a wicked remix for the Italian Screen Records on the track “Further” by Against The Grain. He has also done a remix of Big Bud “Rambla” out on the US based Basswalk label. On his own label Bandung Records he has a remixed the first release of the Australian outfit Origine “Sanctuary”. RND “Ripples” out on LOOQ label is a fantastic mixture of a progressive driving beat, dark and twisted sounds and a fresh melody line, it also includes a deep Jondi & Spesh remix. Also out on the LOOQ label is Jamie Stevens “The Night Before”. Jamie is part of the Australian group Infusion, that I have praised many times and they have made an outstanding remix of Delerium´s “Truly” out on Nettwerk Records. They will also soon release “Girls Can Be Cruel” on Audio Therapy. Gabriel & Dresden has also been very busy; with their Motorcycle outfit where they have made one of anthems for 2003/2004 “When The Rush Comes” out on Armada. On Black Hole Records they have released another beautiful anthem “Beautiful Things” under their Andain project, this is not pure trance or progressive, but a great melody and vocals.

Luke Chable is one of the hottest break-beat produces right now; he has released a long string of 12” on Zero Tolerance. On the Alternative Route label, he has released a fantastic collaboration, “Ride” with NuBreed's Danny Bonnici. Together with Jono Fernandez, he has released “Before You Break On Me” on the M-Theory label. On Minimal Records Panoptic releases “Harmonic Gems” a follow-up to their huge success “Surface” that was released earlier in 2003. The MFA “The Difference it makes” is the 3rd release on James Holden´s Border Community label. On Navigation Records comes Burufunk “Outsider” that was featured on Nick Warrens Global Underground Reykjavik mix. Another atmospheric gem is Aura Imbalance double a-side release on withinrecords. The A-side “Genetica” is a nice break-beat tune and the AA-side “Monothy” is a dark journey into the unknown. Both are excellent openers for a progressive set or a tune that can fit into a chill-out set at any time. Joshua Collins “Project 3” out on Pangea in the Chris Lake remix is a deep progressive track – watch out for this track – this is large.
Matthew Dekay is another producer I can recommend; he has been releasing the most awesome released on the Extrema and Deep label. “If I Could Fly” and “The Beautiful Monday EP” is just fantastic beautiful melodies with an uplifting feeling. He has also done remixes for Van Bellen & Greed “City Lights” out on SOG and Michael Burns “Corrective Tones” out on Sander Kleinenberg label Little Mountain Recordings. Also on Little Mountain Recordings comes Matthew Dekay “Higher Thoughts” and Stef Vrolijk “First Monday Of The Month” and “Little Julia”. Out on SOG is an Underworld styled track Nocando “Living In A New World”. Lexicon Avenue has done a remix of EWC “Getting Higher” out on Chillifunk Records. Aftercast “Solar Guerrilla“ is out on Intrinsic Records and is a brilliant uplifting track that simply rocks. The Bedrock label celebrates its 50th release with 4 one-sided 12”; Bedrock “Heaven Scent” (Yunus Guvenen remix), Saints & Sinners “Pushin Too Hard” in a 2003 remix, Bedrock “Emerald” (Grayarea remix) and Tijuana's “Groove Is In The Air” (The Low End Specialists remix).
One of the hottest labels at the moment is Quivver´s BozBoz label they just keep on releasing one fantastic record after the other. Chris Domingo that also has released on theTechnology label released here “Darklight” a dark and slick track and comes in a rocking remix by Thomas Penton. Talking about Thomas Penton he has also done a fantastic remix of Nugen “Darksides” out on Release Records. This track together with the new Blackwatch and Quivver track “Loveless” are some of the best tracks that was featured on Paul Oakenfold’s “Great Wall” compilation. On the new Danish label Insatirble Society, True To Nature is out with “New World” / “Progrés”. True To Nature are two Danes; DJ Jokke and Tom Von Rosen and they have also remixed Saiko-pod´s “Silent Running” that has been released on Spiral Trax´s sub label ACDC. Out on the Low Pressing sub label Room 4 they have released “The Beat”. The Swedish group Minilouge has released “Join the Minikab” on Feed Me Records and “Leloo” on Baroque Records. On Methode Records comes Central Rush "Out Of Focus".
On the album front: Pole Folder are in the making of their debut album soon to be released on Bedrock. Sasha is releasing a unique remix album on Global Underground. Way Out West are wrapping up a new album due out in the beginning of this year on Distinctive Records. Hernan Cattanéo is behind the new release in the Renaissance Masters series, out in the start of February. Baroque looks back on its huge back catalogue and releases a double CD “Baroque In Session” mixed by Innate.

That’s all from me this time – I will try and update this page more often with all the goodies. Keep on coming back and check out what is going on in the progressive world of music.  You can access the first edition of Calvin's corner here and the second edition here.
Take care. Calvin (Christian)
