Danish producer and DJ Anders Trentemøller is about to
release his first mix-CD ever in May 2009! Stirring a buzz with a number of
12“es (mainly on Poker Flat Recordings), remixes (most recently „Wrong“ from
the new Depeche Mode album) and most importantly his multiaward- winning
debut artist-album „The Last Resort“ (2006) and the compilation „The
Trentemøller Chronicles“ (2007) we‘ve been very curious about what to expect
from his first mix-album and indeed the CD comes in as a very nice surprise.
Entitled „Harbour Boat Trips - Copenhagen by Trentemøller“, the CD will be
released on the new label HFN Music, and will feature a very intimate and
emotional mix of some of the most beautiful music from four decades, as
Trentemøller opens his secret musicbox for us. The idea behind the „Harbour
Boat Trips“ series is to present special mixes by outstanding artists,
inspired by the imagery and the connotations of harbours with all its
distraction and disaccords, where wanderlust meets homesickness, where the
time stands still and runs fast and where past, present and future melt into
one special intimate moment. Trentemøller‘s mix melts dreamy neo folk and
shoegazer songs with heart-wrenching female vocals such as the wonderful
Emiliana Torrini‘s „Livesaver“ or Liz Harris‘ Grouper into the
electro-induced Post-Rock of Nic Endo‘s remix of The Raveonettes‘ seductive
„Aly, Walk With Me“ or „Ghost Rider“ from Alan Vega‘s unforgettable Suicide
into the decadent „Fantômes“ by Khan which was recorded 25 years later!
Sparkeled with odds, outtakes and Trentemøller‘s own edits, the mix features
lots of tunes from Copenhagen, Denmark, but is not limited to that. You‘ll
hear russian announcements, french whispers and simply beautiful music mixed
into a very inspiring soundscape which you might want to take you away on
your next Harbour Boat Trip. And if you ever wondered what‘s inspiring the
musical mastermind of Anders Trentemøller - here you‘ll get an idea.

The world's biggest DJ, Sasha returns to the label
that help propel him to mega music stardom almost 10 years ago with the release
of GU13CD Ibiza (an album that has sold over 250,000 copies worldwide to date!)
with the 2nd installment in the Involver series.
Released in 2004, Involver bucked the trend of declining dance artist albums
with a healthy 120,000 copies sold worldwide to date, and reaffirmed Sasha as
one of the most technically advanced, pioneering producers the dance world has
ever known.
Now the hugely anticipated follow up, Invol2ver, sees
Sasha push his creativity to its very limits with a painstakingly created blend
of mix and artist album.
Taking a diverse collection of high caliber records,
Sasha picks the very fabric of the music apart before weaving the parts back
into a new and colourful tapestry, all of his own. This is re-mix artistry and
new production technique fused at its best. With re-workings of tracks from
major artists such as Radio Head's Thom Yorke and Ray La Montagane, alongside
the finest freshest new house music from Sasha himself, plus Ladytron, Rone and
Engineers, Invol2ver looks set to break new boundaries in House music and is an
absolute must for any self-respecting fan of electronic music and serious
production techniques. With a limited special edition 2nd format with a bonus CD
featuring fresh new music from Sasha, Girls In Hawaii and Lostep, Invol2ver
looks to be a major record for all dance fans and for Global Underground 2008.

To coincide with the
tenth anniversary of Bedrock parties in London and the fast approaching 10th
anniversary of Bedrock Records; John Digweed releases the triple-disc mix
‘Bedrock 10 Past, Present and Future’ through his own Bedrock Records. Compiling
and mixing a stunning collection of remixes that shine new light on the label’s
back catalogue alongside the cuts that are currently representing the
distinguished Bedrock sound.
From its inception in Hastings during the mid-nineties and subsequent
progression to Heaven on 8th October 1998, the Bedrock parties have consistently
been a byword for forward-thinking, underground electronic music that attracted
the absolute cream of national and international DJ’ing talent (as well as being
THE industry hang out). The list is almost endless, but among those appearing
over the years, Sasha, Carl Cox, Danny Tenaglia, Josh Wink, Danny Howells, James
Zabiela, Deep Dish, Hernan Cattaneo, Darren Emerson, Basement Jaxx and Xpress 2
have all rocked the Bedrock dance floor at one stage or another. Reaching far
further than it’s UK-based home, Bedrock has touched down at festivals and club
nights across the globe, with America, Japan, Ibiza, Romania, Australia and
Dubai just a few of those countries lucky enough to absorb the full Bedrock
experience.
Around the same time as those initial parties at Heaven, John set about creating
a label that would fit the ethos of the club night’s innovative and cutting edge
music policy and Bedrock Records was born. Even in it’s embryonic stage around
1999 the imprint seemed destined to set the dance music stratosphere ablaze with
its maiden release ‘Heaven Scent’ garnering an almost unanimous ‘instant classic’
billing. The highlights to date have been almost innumerable but Science
Departments ‘Persuasion/Repercussion’, Steve Lawler’s ‘Rise In’ and Saint’s and
Sinner’s ‘Pushin’ Too Hard’ and Guy Gerber’s ‘Stoppage Time’ as well as albums
from Pole Folder and Suicide Sports Club have all provided some truly standout
moments. More recently the future of the label has been masterfully entrusted to
Israeli wonder-kid Guy J, who’s soon to be released debut artist album
‘Esperanza’ serves as a fantastic snapshot of where Bedrock Records is at in
2008.
So to ‘Bedrock 10 Past present and Future ` and to honour this massive occasion
John has drafted in a careful selection of remix heavyweights to shed new light
on some of the labels biggest tracks along with a tidy fistful of the labels
freshest output all blended to perfection in the inimitable John Digweed mixing
style.
CD1 delves deep into the Bedrock mines and strikes gold with Tom Mangan giving
his mind-blowing 2001 cut ‘Chutney’ a hefty face-lift, Steve Lawler
re-interpreting his own ‘Rise In’ and Danny Howells doing a tasty number on
Science Department’s ‘Repercussion’. The disc culminates in M.O.D.E. turning in
a fine remix of Bedrock’s ‘Heaven Scent’ which is no mean feat given the tracks
gargantuan standing.
CD2 is a more full on and peak time. This CD faces forward whilst reflectively
signalling a nod to past greats. Guy J makes his presence felt among his
long-established, production contemporaries on ‘Lunar’, Bruce Aisher takes on
and wins against Saints and Sinners ‘Pushin Too Hard’ and Christian Smith
demonstrates a lesson in subtly destroying a dance floor with his summer-smash
‘Flyertalk’ and Josh wink under his size 9 Moniker delivers an unreal remix of
‘Chutney’.
CD3 is an Unmixed
affair and features original tracks from Funk d Void, Jim Rivers and Charlie May
(Pindrop) and also features unreleased remixes from Guy Gerber, POB, and Chab to
name a few, making this not just a bonus disc, but an absolute must have for
Bedrock fans. Bedrock 10 perfectly encapsulates the essence of one of the
world’s leading labels by refusing to simply compile a ‘greatest hits’ CD and
therefore continuing in the pioneering spirit on which the label is based.
“From its humble beginnings in Hastings to the bright lights of London, Bedrock
has come a long way. For the last 10 years, I have been very lucky to work with
some amazing DJs and producers, promote some memorable parties and experience
club land at its best. This album reflects some of the labels highlights
exclusively remixed and future club classics. I hope you enjoy it as much as I
did putting it together” - John Digweed, Bedrock

Ultimae -
Ambient masters |
|
|
|
French composer Vincent
Villuis, aka AES Dana, known for his participation to the H.U.V.A. Network
band and co-manager of Ultimae Records, signs here his 4th ambient downtempo
album and presents 10 immersive tracks of luminous darkness.
"For those who believe in them, Leylines are invisible lines of forces that
connect centers of geomagnetic power to one another."
Throughout the album, the artist builds upon the concept of connections that
exist between various musical genres and influences, interlinks between the
elements surrounding us, the feelings of life. Sound becomes organic matter,
clay.
Tapped, scraped, plucked, stretched, it transforms into rich rhythms,
spatial acoustics, sustained harmonics, hypnotic morphing pads and profound
basslines. The outcome is a granular journey of complex delicacy, fragmented
and yet fluid.
Electronic Arts just released the Original
Soundtrack from the video game Mirror's Edge. The stunning music is composed
by Magnus Birgersson aka Solar Fields and. The album will be only available
digitally.

Converts tend to emerge excitedly from their first Above
& Beyond gig experience and ask 'was that really trance?' The answer is
usually yes and no, for while Above & Beyond are proud of their role in
defining the melodic trance sound and their synonymy with the quality end of
the genre, trance is too small a word for what they do.
There's no clearer example of this than the success of Anjunadeep, the
trio's melodic and progressive house offshoot that’s grown from being a
promising sibling label to a dynamic and influential imprint in its own
right, winning fans such as James Zabiela, Desyn Masiello, Eric Prydz, and
Laurent Garnier along the way, and receiving a nomination for Best Record
Label at DJ Mag’s Best of British Awards 2008.
It's a progression which brings us to 'Above & Beyond Anjunadeep:01', the
label's debut compilation. Anjunadeep stalwarts Jaytech, Michael Cassette (aka
Komytea), Interplay, Joonas Hahmo and recent high profile addition 16 Bit
Lolitas, are joined by newer faces like Colombia's Liluca, Russia's Proff
and Canadian Paul Keeley, as Above & Beyond conjure up two CD's of spirited
melodic house music. A special treat comes in the form of Above & Beyond’s
own remix of Radiohead ‘Reckoner’, officially licensed via XL Recordings for
the physical format only.
ABOVE & BEYOND’S JONO GRANT SAID:
"If Anjunabeats is there to serve trance DJ's, then Anjunadeep exists to
release tracks that both house and trance dj's might play. The UK scene in
particular can be quite obsessed with categorisations, but Above & Beyond
has always just been about quality uplifting dance music and this
compilation illustrates the kind of stuff you'll hear in the early part of
one of our longer sets."

This summer sees the
first in a series of compilations from Hybrid entitled Soundsystem 01,
released on Hope Recordings on the 14th of July. The compilation includes
special unreleased tracks from a range of producers including Massive Attack,
Trentemoller, Quivver, Harry Gregson Williams, John Murphy, Sasha, Ryuichi
Sakamoto and Andy Page to name a few.
“Cinematic” is a term long associated with acclaimed dance-music innovators
Hybrid—and that widescreen emphasis comes even more into focus on Hybrid’s
ground-breaking new double-disc mix collection, Soundsystem 01 (Hope
Recordings). “We’re on the opposite end of minimal—more maximal really,”
explains Mike Truman, who with Chris Healings forms Hybrid’s creative core.
“It’s ingrained in us. We’ve always wanted these expansive sounds behind
everything, which makes our songs so cinematic.” “Making big noises is what
we do,” adds Healings. “It’s our calling card. But whether we use
electronics, string orchestras, or brass, our songs always take the listener
somewhere, which is where the cinematic tag comes from.”
Hybrid’s filmic quality was evident from their genre-defining 1999 debut
Wide Angle—from the very title down to the duo’s propensity for blending
epic symphonic soundscapes with massive beats, as well as the prominent use
of singer Julee Cruise (best known for her eerie vocals on Angelo
Badalamenti’s Twin Peaks soundtrack). Since then, in addition to crafting
dancefloor hits of their own and remixes for everyone from Radiohead to Moby,
Hybrid has become known for their work scoring films, as well as sound
design and arranging. Truman and Healings can be heard on the soundtracks of
Kingdom of Heaven, Déjà Vu, Man On Fire, and Domino, and “Chronicles of
Narnia” entry, Prince Caspian (all projects with renowned composer and
frequent collaborator Harry Gregson-Williams, who also appeared on the
group’s 2006 album I Choose Noise). 2007, meanwhile, saw Hybrid complete its
first full score for the horror film Catacombs. Soundsystem 01 takes
Hybrid’s movie obsession to a new level, however, fully merging it with
their DJ/production roots.
On CD 1 of Soundsystem, Truman and Healings fuse actual film scores and
ambient electronica together for the first time, making for an unforgettable
downtempo odyssey: here, glitchy, atmospheric tracks from Trentemoller,
Spooky, Andy Page, and new Hybrid vocalist Charlotte James (who contributes
a haunting new chill-out classic, “Shadows of the City”) blend seamlessly
with edgy score selections from films like Babel and 28 Days Later. “It
gives a good insight into glorious bits of music we thought should see light
of day,” Truman says. “It’s a bit out of the norm—a more beatless, more
abstract vein than we’re known for—yet it also reflects the kind of
soundtrack work we do for something like a Tony Scott film.” The idea for
the mix came about when the combination of this great Ryuichi Sakamoto track
featuring David Sylvian, with a remix of Harry Gregson-Williams’ score for
Man On Fire just jelled. We wanted to mix it up so that other people’s
tracks become a bit of our own.”
The more upfront, club-oriented disc of Soundsystem 01 also features some
surprises for Hybrid fans. For one, while big-room icons like Sasha, Quivver
and Elite Force are represented, Soundsystem shifts the duo’s trademark
progressive/breaks sound into a predominantly techier, 4/4-driven groove.
“We’ve never actually played just one style, so this is a real reflection of
our DJ sets—of what’s actually in our record box,” Healings explains. “This
mix isn’t so much banging as it is a refined journey through today’s
clubbing experience: a little bit progressive, a little bit chunky and
tech-housey, with some techno and breakbeat in the middle. Basically, when
we DJ, we go everywhere: we’ll throw on whatever works to both get people
moving and create a real listening experience at the same time.”
Soundsystem’s DJ-mix disc also features a stripped-down club mix of Hybrid’s
latest single “Formula of Fear,” which reflects of how the band’s famous
live show—hailed everywhere from festivals spanning Coachella to Glastonbury—has
evolved a new creative direction. “It’s the first step to what our next
artist album will sound like,” Truman explains. In addition to Charlotte
James, Hybrid’s touring lineup includes guitarist Peter DiStefano (of Porno
For Pyros fame); bassist Tim Hutton (also known for his work with Ian Brown,
Prodigy, and Groove Armada); and programmer/producer John Graham (also famed
for his studio aliases Quivver and Tilt). “The next album is really drawing
on the strengths on the band members,” Healings explains. “Playing live,
we’ve got up to eight people improvising and playing lines on our tracks,
and we wanted to continue that vibe. Therefore, we’re recording the new
album first as a band, then we’ll electronically destroy it and make it our
own—‘Hybrid’ it, if you know what I mean.”
Hybrid are no strangers to working with notable musicians. In addition to
Julee Cruise, Wide Angle featured collaborations with the likes of Chrissie
Hynde; Hybrid’s second album, 2003’s Morning Sci-Fi, was energized by two
tracks featuring legendary New Order bassist Peter Hook; as well, their last
full-length, 2006’s I Choose Noise, was spotlit by an appearance by alt-rock
guru Perry Farrell. Such high-profile alliances highlight Hybrid’s devotion
to real songwriting as the ultimate goal, setting them apart from the
majority of electronic/dance producers. “Even if we do a club record, it has
to have a song-based chorus,” Healings clarifies. “It has to do something—it
can’t just be beat programming.” Then again, defying expectations has been
what Hybrid has all about since the beginning: true to its name, the band
functions as an umbrella under which Healings and Truman can fuse their
different interests. “I think you have to go beyond being just a club act,”
Healings says. “We think of ourselves as producers, film scorers, sound
designers, songwriters, and a real live band. If we were just DJs, we’d get
bored very quickly.” Indeed, both Soundsystem’s mixes and Hybrid’s new
material reflect just how diverse and vital the sphere of electronic music
has become. “Music is so clashing right now, and it’s glorious,” Truman
concludes. “It’s an exciting time for music—everything’s wide open.”

You’d be hard pushed to find many long-standing figures in
global dance music that are as passionate about what they do and who still do it
for those much lauded ‘right reasons’ than Darren Emerson. He’s stamped his mark
on dance culture for 20 years, thoroughly resists the trappings of celebdom (his
partner is a well-known TV personality), and still seeks out those emerging
clubbing beacons spread-out across the world with the zeal of a wide-eyed newbie.
‘Bogotá’ is the 3rd Global Underground mix from Darren, and he’s crowned his hat
trick with a metaphorical 25 yard volley, a double CD journey into the modern
dancefloor, with a couple of tricks thrown in to remind you that he remains at
the pinnacle of his craft. Though he would probably dispel the ‘legend’ tag with
a characteristically self-deprecating chuckle, the Essex-born DJ and producer,
could rightly hold claim to such superlatives. One of the early UK protagonists
at the arrival of acid house, he went on to soundtrack British house’s emergence
as a worldwide force; before forming a band called Underworld, and changing
dance music forever.
Colombia’s Bogotá is a city enjoying rapid change. Historically a cultural
epicentre of the South American continent, it’s now a growing metropolis with a
club scene in rude health. Having made the time-honoured transition from big
outdoor events to a wealth of individual clubs, its boom time for electronic
music. Cue the arrival of Emerson to honour Bogotá with a Global Underground
album that shares its musical values.
CD One begins with the chiming synths of the Underworld opus, ‘Mmm Skyscraper… I
Love You’, before kickstarting the mix with Anja Schneider & Sebo K’s ‘Rancho
Relaxo’, and the jacking house of Jagged’s ‘ Hello Kool Nice’ (Quarion Remix).
Other highlights include Darren’s ‘Home’, Pete Heller’s ‘Sabotage’, and John
Selway & Vincenzo Ragone’s ‘Dream Stealer’, and the electro-pop funk of Maja’s
‘Love Me For Tonight’.
Funk ‘Void’s remix of Itamar Sagi’s ‘One Million Oaks’ launches CD Two, which
Emerson segues neatly into Kerri Chandler’s ‘Fortran’ (Argy’s Big Room Detroit
mix). His recent single for GU, ‘Crash Jack’, is featured here via an exclusive
mix from Jamie McHugh. Further standout cuts include Josh Wink’s ‘Counter Clock
319’, Matthew Jonson’s ‘Marionette’ (Adam Beyer mix), Spirit Catcher &
Compuphonic’s ‘Mastermind’, Emerson & McHugh’s ‘Impact’, and Joris Voorn’s
‘Blank’. Darren closes the album with the full version of Underworld’s ‘Mmm
Skyscraper… I Love You’, which depending on your raving age, is either a
treasured memory or lesson in how it was done back then.

Comprising of the
incredibly gifted Ben Harris and Paul Harris (no relation) on percussion and
production, along with the distinctive vocal talents of Steve Smith; Dirty
Vegas exploded onto the scene in 2002 with their self-titled debut album,
earning massive commercial success, along with unanimous critical acclaim.
Featuring the legendary ‘Days Go By’ and ‘Ghosts’, the collection made a
huge impact upon its arrival, landing at Number 7 in the Billboard 200, and
sold close to a million records worldwide and received glowing reviews from
the likes of Rolling Stone and Q Magazine. No mean feat for a predominately
‘dance’ oriented band. The 2nd album ‘One’ followed in 2004 on Parlaphone
and was more of guitar band affair featuring the massive hit ‘Walk into the
Sun’ and was coupled with a huge global tour.
Fast forward to present day and the guys have signed an album deal with UK
institution Toolroom Records and with pen to paper, hi-hat to kick drum,
guitar riff to bass line, they’re working on a new album. The album will be
more band orientated with a full on worldwide tour to follow. Toolroom
Records say…
“We’re very proud to be associated with one of the worlds finest dance
bands, Dirty Vegas. I remember the day that ‘Days Go By’ hit the No. 1 spot
in the USA & never did I think that one day, Steve, Paul & Ben would be
releasing such quality music on our label. Toolroom have worked with Paul
Harris from the start, so when we heard of the reform we started talking and
the band decided that Toolroom were the right partners for them to re-launch
into the market. So, our label is now knocking on the door of all the majors
out there! It’s very exciting times indeed for Toolroom Records and for
Dirty Vegas!”
Whereas the album will be more song driven, in the meantime, Dirty Vegas
have gone back to their roots and released their first dance single
‘Pressure’ on Toolroom. A seriously heavy hitter that has grabbed tastemaker
Pete Tong by the short and curlies; gaining repeated plays on Radio 1’s
Essential Selection, and becoming the certified smash hit of this year’s
prestigious Amsterdam Dance Event proving the band has lost none of its
magic. The track has been remixed by Montreal’s eminent Sultan and his
production partner Ned Shepard, who themselves, are responsible for setting
Beatport’s Top 10 Chart on fire recently with 3 consecutive tracks and have
been turning heads in every corner of the globe.
Steve, says “After we (Dirty Vegas) decided to start working together again
for a new record, that took us back to our ‘house’ roots; there was only one
label that could be our new home...Toolroom!”
“During my solo years from Dirty Vegas, making loads of club tracks, I
started a great relationship with Mark, Owen and all at Toolroom. So when
Dirty Vegas decided to get back together and go more ‘clubby’, Toolroom was
the obvious choice.
There is a 2nd single in the pipeline called 'Changes' which will drop March
/ April just in time for the WMC.

JZ returns to his
spiritual compilation home to confirm the mounting buzz surrounding his first
Masters Series…
Ask anyone what their favourite compilations are and, invariably, James
Zabiela’s ‘ALiVE’ and ‘Utilities’ will feature amongst them… Then, ask anyone
what their favourite compilation series is and, invariably, ‘Renaissance Masters
Series’ will also crop-up… Put the two together and you have the recipe for one
of the most eagerly anticipated dance compilations of 2009.
- “I’m delighted to step-up and join the ranks of The Masters Series,” says an
ever-humble JZ, “It’s produced some incredible comps over the years and, albeit
nervously (lol!), am relishing the opportunity of joining its ranks.”
- “After recently completing the comp’ I can’t wait for it to hit the shelves. I
haven’t done a solo compilation in over two years so I really went to town on
it,” he adds.
And he isn’t kidding… James has produced two incredible discs that differ, yet
compliment each other perfectly. Disc One – Down is what James describes as an
‘audio travelogue’, an intricately produced collage of beautiful electronica
over-laid with his own ‘field recordings’, a suite of ambient sounds and spoken
word that represent both his journeys on the road and in the air, and time and
thoughts between gigs. The result is one of the most beautiful, unique mixes to
emerge in recent years.
Disc Two – Up transports the listener to the club and is where James has chosen
to feature 2 new original productions: a mix (Darkness.2) of the much-hyped
‘Dark By Design’ that he’s been road testing around the world in ’08 and a brand
new Luke Dzierzek remix of ‘Perseverance’, which he’s also edited exclusively.
Finally, we couldn’t sign-off without giving a shout to James’ wider, exciting
track selection, which features Trentemoller, Modeselektor, Boards Of Canada,
Paul Woolford, Apparat, Extrawelt, plus many more...
‘Renaissance: The Masters Series – James Zabiela’ is due 23 February 2009 in the
UK and 31 March 2009 in North America.

ThBALANCE 014
represents another step forward for the acclaimed DJ-mix series. Across two
discs and using-remarkably-over 100 tracks, JORIS VOORN constructs a layered
and seamless mix of some of the best tech house, minimal and electronic
dance music. An epic mix, in the very best sense of the word, BALANCE 014
achieves the rare feat of combining variety and consistency, making it
perfect for trainspotters and dancers alike. The tracks change quickly and
quietly, but the beat goes on... and on...and on.
“The process of making these mixes has been more like painting with sound
rather than performing a traditional DJ mix. As you can see I have used a
lot of tracks, my intention while working on these mixes however, has not
been 'more is more'. Some of the tracks have been reduced to a 2 bar loop,
or just the break or the intro. It was inspired and inspiring, and although
the mix CD project has finished, it has created many new leads and ideas for
future works. I hope that people will enjoy the results, some listeners will
be surprised, but I believe I've pushed my own boundaries in a technical,
but even more so, in a musical and artistic way”. - Joris Voorn.
Performing a yet near impossible task of making 100 tracks mesh and work
together in 2 continuous mixes, Joris draws on a depth of talent unlikely to
be repeated on a mix CD compilation. It takes a visionary DJ to combine
tracks from Radiohead, through to Goldie, Leftfield, Jimpster, Aphex Twin,
Dubfire, System 7, Minilogue, Cobblestone Jazz, Emmanuel Top, Joakim, Âme,
Mood II Swing, Ricardo Villalobos, Radio Slave, Carl Craig, Flying Lotus,
Marc Romboy, Robert Babicz, Tiger Stripes just to name a few.
This isn’t a CD you skip through. In some cases one track is in fact 6
different tracks from various artists. By allowing the tracks to breathe at
the right time, Joris crafts the mix ever so smoothly; riding along without
the listener even noticing that you are passing from tune to tune. Its all
about the subtle transitions, the loops, the multiple layers that make
Balance 014 a musical composition in its own right. So sit back and enjoy as
EQ Recordings and Joris Voorn prepare to take you on a journey that recent
mix CD compilations rarely do.

Artists such as Chris
Fortier are inextricably linked to underground dance music, and genuinely push
the sound forward. Fortier’s critically acclaimed 2007 debut artist album “As
Long As The Moment Exists”, written in airport waiting lounges and 30,000 feet
in the air, consisting of 15 stunning tracks ranging from air freshener for the
ears electronica, through to techno to frown to, saw him receive global critical
acclaim.
Now, in 2008, “As Long As The Moment Exists” gets the extreme make over
treatment by some of Chris’ all time musical heroes alongside some of his
favourite new artists. The list of artists involved in this stunning collection
of remixes and musical visions reads like a roll call of underground music’s
who’s who; past, present and future: Bruno Pronsato, Someone Else, Pheek, Joey
Beltram, Mark Henning, Ed Davenport, Joel Mull, Error Error and Patrick Zigon to
name just a few.
EP1 from this special remix project features four artists that need little in
the way of introduction: Error Error, Bruno Pronsato, Perc and Ink & Needle.
Error Error, aka Denis Karimani (Remute) & Pelle Buys (Einmusic) deliver house,
rave and everything in between in this 12 minute interpretation of Sunday Is A
Travel Day. Charted at #1 by John Digweed in March.
Bruno Pronsato, hot on the heels of his 2nd artist album described his remix of
“As Long As The Moment Exists” as very relaxing. We think it’s massive-passive.
Deep subs and spooky textures peppered with intricate percussion and arranged
into slick set-opener style.
If Tech-House was a company, Ali 'Perc' Wells would be on the board of directors.
He's turned in a strictly business mix of “Don't Hide What You Believe”,
complete with rollin' sub bass, robo-groove and dubby percussion...AND manages
to maintain the mood from Chris' original. A 3am bomb...
Last but by no means least, under the counter project Ink & Needle, with recent
appearances on compilations like John Digweed’s Transitions volume 4 and Balance
013 mixed by triumvirate SOS, round off the EP with a top-shelf rub of “Sunday
Is A Travel Day”.
“I am proud to re-invigorate my debut artist album with new, fresh
interpretations by some of the coolest producers around. This project will
consist of a series of EP releases culminating LP/CD release collection.” -
Chris Fortier
A vinyl devotee, Chris refuses to give in to the so called digital revolution
and as a touring DJ is still more than happy to discuss excess baggage with
airline staff. So partnering with the world’s leading underground dance
distributor, Intergroove Germany, to ensure the best of these works find their
way into the hands of the vinyl buying community first, seemed the right thing
to do.
Digital evangelists and vinyl doomsayers, stay calm – each EP will be made
available exclusively at dance music’s digital mecca, Beatport.com, a fortnight
after each vinyl release, and will include two bonus digital only tracks that
aren’t a couple of token digital-only mixes by a couple of nobodies that is so
often the case today. Start thinking Ink & Needle, Joey Beltram and Mark Broom;
