Max Graham makes a
welcome and long-overdue return to the mix album arena with ‘Cycles’, his
first double-disc album for over 6 years. Since his break-out smash
‘Airtight’ back in 2001 Max has steadily been building a reputation as an
exceptional DJ and producer, with the musical prowess and technical ability
to rival anyone you care to mention!
As always with Max at the helm, the journey across the two discs is as
diverse as it is energetic… From moments of house and techno brilliance
right through to the melodic numbers Max is famed for. The mix twists and
turns in a way that propels you to listen throughout, keeping you in
suspense.
Max’s own ‘Intro’ sets the wheels in motion on CD1 with it beat-less
atmospheric textures that sounds reminiscent of classic mix albums of days
gone by. Analog People in a Digital World follow with ‘The Envelope of Life’
which pierces through the pads of the intro and sets the tone of the disc
with its driving bass and fleeting sparkles of melody. By the time track 3,
Oliver Moldam & Patric La Funk’s ‘Good Fellas’ swerves into the picture, you
can sense that Max is already delivering a no-nonsense mix simply by
eschewing the meandering tendencies warm-up sets usually descend into. The
track is stuffed with weighty Detroit chords, giving a house vibe to an
already varied sound palette.
The first of Max’s own productions arrives in the form of ‘Frozen’, a track
that typifies the sound of the disc with its tightly wound, highly
compressed grooves and momentary flashes of melodic brilliance. Never one to
travel directly in a straight musical line, Max later steers the mix back
into housier territory with Patch Park’s ‘Got That Mi’ which precedes David
Tort, DJ Ruff & DJ Disciple’s ‘Destination’, another of the
Chicago-influenced tracks on the disc. As Lemon 8’s ‘New York, New York’
seamlessly slides into the frame Max moves through the gears, pushing things
towards the more melody rich end of the house spectrum. His own mix Of
Roland Klinkenburg’s ‘Dusty Horizons’ further emphasises the rising peak
time energy that has formed, before the disc is rounded off perfectly by
Analog People in a Digital World’s ‘Violet Trip’, a track that does exactly
as it suggests with it’s trippy, other-worldly synths and luscious melodies. |

Disc 2 begins in a
similar manner to the first with Max’s ‘Intro’ although second time around the
swirling pads are punctuated by more defined and immediately peak-time sounds
through Tim Le & Wollion’s ‘Bodymovin’. The Kos track ‘Zero to Hero’ follows and
again the intensity levels are taken up a notch with its broad soundscape and
driving progressive beats. Max’s remix of Marcus Schossow’s ‘Sweedish Beatballs’
enters the fray around the halfway point, throwing huge portions of melodic
goodness over the now fully-charged beats.
Again showing-off his diversity in selection, Max slides in Mat Zo ‘Fumar’ that
brings a wonderfully Baleric vibe to the disc with its massive Spanish
guitar-infused breakdown. As the mix reaches its summit Max offers a welcome
vocal passage through Whelan & Discala’s remix of his own track ‘I Know You’re
Gone’ which poises the mix delicately for the final straight. Mitiska & Medina’s
massive ‘After Hours Ensemble’ rounds off the journey in fine euphoric style.
As Max explains, “I love music and so many different styles turn me on, it’s
been written that you can leave the room for 20 minutes when I’m DJ’ing and come
back to a completely different sound”.
For a taste of the many shades of house, techno and beyond, this two disc
collection is a perfect illustration of where Max Graham, one of the decades
finest DJ’s and producers, is at right now.

The world's biggest DJ, Sasha returns to the label
that help propel him to mega music stardom almost 10 years ago with the release
of GU13CD Ibiza (an album that has sold over 250,000 copies worldwide to date!)
with the 2nd installment in the Involver series.
Released in 2004, Involver bucked the trend of declining dance artist albums
with a healthy 120,000 copies sold worldwide to date, and reaffirmed Sasha as
one of the most technically advanced, pioneering producers the dance world has
ever known.
Now the hugely anticipated follow up, Invol2ver, sees
Sasha push his creativity to its very limits with a painstakingly created blend
of mix and artist album.
Taking a diverse collection of high caliber records,
Sasha picks the very fabric of the music apart before weaving the parts back
into a new and colourful tapestry, all of his own. This is re-mix artistry and
new production technique fused at its best. With re-workings of tracks from
major artists such as Radio Head's Thom Yorke and Ray La Montagane, alongside
the finest freshest new house music from Sasha himself, plus Ladytron, Rone and
Engineers, Invol2ver looks set to break new boundaries in House music and is an
absolute must for any self-respecting fan of electronic music and serious
production techniques. With a limited special edition 2nd format with a bonus CD
featuring fresh new music from Sasha, Girls In Hawaii and Lostep, Invol2ver
looks to be a major record for all dance fans and for Global Underground 2008.

To coincide with the
tenth anniversary of Bedrock parties in London and the fast approaching 10th
anniversary of Bedrock Records; John Digweed releases the triple-disc mix
‘Bedrock 10 Past, Present and Future’ through his own Bedrock Records. Compiling
and mixing a stunning collection of remixes that shine new light on the label’s
back catalogue alongside the cuts that are currently representing the
distinguished Bedrock sound.
From its inception in Hastings during the mid-nineties and subsequent
progression to Heaven on 8th October 1998, the Bedrock parties have consistently
been a byword for forward-thinking, underground electronic music that attracted
the absolute cream of national and international DJ’ing talent (as well as being
THE industry hang out). The list is almost endless, but among those appearing
over the years, Sasha, Carl Cox, Danny Tenaglia, Josh Wink, Danny Howells, James
Zabiela, Deep Dish, Hernan Cattaneo, Darren Emerson, Basement Jaxx and Xpress 2
have all rocked the Bedrock dance floor at one stage or another. Reaching far
further than it’s UK-based home, Bedrock has touched down at festivals and club
nights across the globe, with America, Japan, Ibiza, Romania, Australia and
Dubai just a few of those countries lucky enough to absorb the full Bedrock
experience.
Around the same time as those initial parties at Heaven, John set about creating
a label that would fit the ethos of the club night’s innovative and cutting edge
music policy and Bedrock Records was born. Even in it’s embryonic stage around
1999 the imprint seemed destined to set the dance music stratosphere ablaze with
its maiden release ‘Heaven Scent’ garnering an almost unanimous ‘instant classic’
billing. The highlights to date have been almost innumerable but Science
Departments ‘Persuasion/Repercussion’, Steve Lawler’s ‘Rise In’ and Saint’s and
Sinner’s ‘Pushin’ Too Hard’ and Guy Gerber’s ‘Stoppage Time’ as well as albums
from Pole Folder and Suicide Sports Club have all provided some truly standout
moments. More recently the future of the label has been masterfully entrusted to
Israeli wonder-kid Guy J, who’s soon to be released debut artist album
‘Esperanza’ serves as a fantastic snapshot of where Bedrock Records is at in
2008.
So to ‘Bedrock 10 Past present and Future ` and to honour this massive occasion
John has drafted in a careful selection of remix heavyweights to shed new light
on some of the labels biggest tracks along with a tidy fistful of the labels
freshest output all blended to perfection in the inimitable John Digweed mixing
style.
CD1 delves deep into the Bedrock mines and strikes gold with Tom Mangan giving
his mind-blowing 2001 cut ‘Chutney’ a hefty face-lift, Steve Lawler
re-interpreting his own ‘Rise In’ and Danny Howells doing a tasty number on
Science Department’s ‘Repercussion’. The disc culminates in M.O.D.E. turning in
a fine remix of Bedrock’s ‘Heaven Scent’ which is no mean feat given the tracks
gargantuan standing.
CD2 is a more full on and peak time. This CD faces forward whilst reflectively
signalling a nod to past greats. Guy J makes his presence felt among his
long-established, production contemporaries on ‘Lunar’, Bruce Aisher takes on
and wins against Saints and Sinners ‘Pushin Too Hard’ and Christian Smith
demonstrates a lesson in subtly destroying a dance floor with his summer-smash
‘Flyertalk’ and Josh wink under his size 9 Moniker delivers an unreal remix of
‘Chutney’.
CD3 is an Unmixed
affair and features original tracks from Funk d Void, Jim Rivers and Charlie May
(Pindrop) and also features unreleased remixes from Guy Gerber, POB, and Chab to
name a few, making this not just a bonus disc, but an absolute must have for
Bedrock fans. Bedrock 10 perfectly encapsulates the essence of one of the
world’s leading labels by refusing to simply compile a ‘greatest hits’ CD and
therefore continuing in the pioneering spirit on which the label is based.
“From its humble beginnings in Hastings to the bright lights of London, Bedrock
has come a long way. For the last 10 years, I have been very lucky to work with
some amazing DJs and producers, promote some memorable parties and experience
club land at its best. This album reflects some of the labels highlights
exclusively remixed and future club classics. I hope you enjoy it as much as I
did putting it together” - John Digweed, Bedrock

John "Quivver"
Graham - Dirty Nails And Vapour Trails |
|
|
|
For the past 15 years,
John Graham has been at the forefront of the dance music scene. Perhaps
you’ll know him better through his numerous alter ego’s including Quivver,
Space Manoeuvres, Stoneproof, Skanna, and Tilt, as each of these projects
produced numerous hit singles and had a heavy hand in shaping global dance
music. Now, fresh off a recent move from his native UK to Los Angeles,
Graham resurfaces in July with his monstrous debut Quivver album, Dirty
Nails And Vapour Trails.
While it’s true that Graham – in his many forms – has long been associated
with the progressive house genre, Dirty Nails And Vapour Trails travels down
many different paths. Whereas recent Beatport and Juno chart topping single
“Surin” offers a classic 4/4 progressive vibe, the remarkable drum n bass
sizzle of “Chasin A Feelin” is making jaws drop worldwide. Yes, you read
that right – this is a gorgeous pure drum n’ bass track, a hark back to his
original Skanna sound. The track is so hot right now that Sasha was playing
it one out all around WMC and is currently finishing most of his “delta
heavy” tour shows with it (in addition to other CD tracks including “Tick
Tick” and “2 Notes N’ A Beat” . Pete Tong dropped it for the first time on
April 11 edition of “The Essential Selection” on BBC Radio One.
“I've always listened to and have been influenced by a lot of different
stuff and I think it's sad that the scene is so divided these days. It's
like there's a new genre every other week and people jump on that bandwagon
until the next one comes along and forget where they came from. I also
wanted the album to be something people could really listen to and that
would still be relevant in a few years so I didn't want to do a bunch of 4
to the floor bangin' club tracks - that's what mix comps are for,” Graham
says
A multidimensional artist, Graham is known not only for his cache of hot
productions, but also for his dynamic singing voice. Graham starred as a
feature voice on Hybrid’s fantastic 2006 artist CD I Choose Noise and lays
down each vocal on Dirty Nails And Vapour Trails. It’s simply one of those
voices that finds a way to work like magic whether applied to progressive
house, drum n’ bass and even a haunting spaced out breaks track like “Ghosts.”
In 2003, Graham founded his own label Boz Boz recordings which is still
going strong today and provides a comfy independent home for Dirty Nails And
Vapour Trails. In addition to releasing hits as a producer (Tilt’s top 20
hit “Invisible” comes to mind), Graham is also an accomplished DJ who in
2001 became a resident DJ at Twilo and is currently ranked 43 in the world
by the dj list out of 200,000 dj’s worldwide. while also showcasing his
skills on an entry in the Tranceport mix CD series.
Dirty Nails And Vapour Trails is released July ’08 on Boz Boz Recordings. More

ABOVE &
BEYOND PRESENT - ANJUNABEATS VOLUME 6 |
|
|
|
Above & Beyond began
2008 playing to 1 million people on New Year’s Eve in Rio (thought to be the
largest live DJ gig ever) - an auspicious start and another milestone in
their fast-rising journey to becoming “one of Britain’s biggest dance
outfits” (The Sun).
‘Anjunabeats Volume 6’ is the next instalment in their highly successful
label compilation series and features the pick of the label’s artists across
Anjunabeats and housier offshoot Anjunadeep. Including numerous exclusives,
as well as their own productions and remixes, Above & Beyond’s mix
illustrates once again why both labels are magnets for electronic dance
music connoisseurs.
Currently ranked No.6 in DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs Poll, Above & Beyond were
recently voted 11th in Mixmag’s list of the best dance acts of the past 25
years. Their weekly radio show is a regular fixture in the iTunes music
podcast Top 10, mirroring the success of their recent OceanLab album,
‘Sirens Of The Sea’, which was a Top 10 seller in both the UK and US iTunes
sales charts.
However, statistics tell only a fraction of the story. Their rise to global
attention is seen through the eyes of tens of thousands of music fans
worldwide each weekend. Now captured on their Youtube channel, Tony, Paavo,
and Jono’s exploits have taken them to all four corners of the earth.
Highpoints in recent months include selling-out London’s Ministry Of Sound,
a monumental show in Beirut, a trail-blazing visit to Bolivia, and a bus
tour across the USA, including a career-defining performance at the
Coachella festival.
CD1 of ‘Anjunabeats Volume 6’ showcases the Anjunadeep sound, the deeper,
atmospheric-end of the Anjuna spectrum that’s attracted champions such as
Sasha, James Zabiela, and Desyn Masiello. Highlights include tracks from
Jaytech, Komytea (aka Michael Cassette), Joonas Hahmo, Paul Keeley (‘ASOH’
as featured in Zabiela’s Glastonbury Essential Mix), Joonas Hahmo (‘Cocktail
Bar’), Andy Moor (‘Fake Awake’), and more. CD2 features the classy melodic
trance sound that Anjunabeats is best known for, and includes Oceanlab (‘Breaking
Ties’ - A&B Club Mix), the eagerly awaited club rework of one of the
OceanLab album's standout tunes, Super 8 & Tab (‘Elektra’), Bart Claessen &
Dave Schiemann’s Madness’ (I Prefer This Mix), and others. More

This summer sees the
first in a series of compilations from Hybrid entitled Soundsystem 01,
released on Hope Recordings on the 14th of July. The compilation includes
special unreleased tracks from a range of producers including Massive Attack,
Trentemoller, Quivver, Harry Gregson Williams, John Murphy, Sasha, Ryuichi
Sakamoto and Andy Page to name a few.
“Cinematic” is a term long associated with acclaimed dance-music innovators
Hybrid—and that widescreen emphasis comes even more into focus on Hybrid’s
ground-breaking new double-disc mix collection, Soundsystem 01 (Hope
Recordings). “We’re on the opposite end of minimal—more maximal really,”
explains Mike Truman, who with Chris Healings forms Hybrid’s creative core.
“It’s ingrained in us. We’ve always wanted these expansive sounds behind
everything, which makes our songs so cinematic.” “Making big noises is what
we do,” adds Healings. “It’s our calling card. But whether we use
electronics, string orchestras, or brass, our songs always take the listener
somewhere, which is where the cinematic tag comes from.”
Hybrid’s filmic quality was evident from their genre-defining 1999 debut
Wide Angle—from the very title down to the duo’s propensity for blending
epic symphonic soundscapes with massive beats, as well as the prominent use
of singer Julee Cruise (best known for her eerie vocals on Angelo
Badalamenti’s Twin Peaks soundtrack). Since then, in addition to crafting
dancefloor hits of their own and remixes for everyone from Radiohead to Moby,
Hybrid has become known for their work scoring films, as well as sound
design and arranging. Truman and Healings can be heard on the soundtracks of
Kingdom of Heaven, Déjà Vu, Man On Fire, and Domino, and “Chronicles of
Narnia” entry, Prince Caspian (all projects with renowned composer and
frequent collaborator Harry Gregson-Williams, who also appeared on the
group’s 2006 album I Choose Noise). 2007, meanwhile, saw Hybrid complete its
first full score for the horror film Catacombs. Soundsystem 01 takes
Hybrid’s movie obsession to a new level, however, fully merging it with
their DJ/production roots.
On CD 1 of Soundsystem, Truman and Healings fuse actual film scores and
ambient electronica together for the first time, making for an unforgettable
downtempo odyssey: here, glitchy, atmospheric tracks from Trentemoller,
Spooky, Andy Page, and new Hybrid vocalist Charlotte James (who contributes
a haunting new chill-out classic, “Shadows of the City”) blend seamlessly
with edgy score selections from films like Babel and 28 Days Later. “It
gives a good insight into glorious bits of music we thought should see light
of day,” Truman says. “It’s a bit out of the norm—a more beatless, more
abstract vein than we’re known for—yet it also reflects the kind of
soundtrack work we do for something like a Tony Scott film.” The idea for
the mix came about when the combination of this great Ryuichi Sakamoto track
featuring David Sylvian, with a remix of Harry Gregson-Williams’ score for
Man On Fire just jelled. We wanted to mix it up so that other people’s
tracks become a bit of our own.”
The more upfront, club-oriented disc of Soundsystem 01 also features some
surprises for Hybrid fans. For one, while big-room icons like Sasha, Quivver
and Elite Force are represented, Soundsystem shifts the duo’s trademark
progressive/breaks sound into a predominantly techier, 4/4-driven groove.
“We’ve never actually played just one style, so this is a real reflection of
our DJ sets—of what’s actually in our record box,” Healings explains. “This
mix isn’t so much banging as it is a refined journey through today’s
clubbing experience: a little bit progressive, a little bit chunky and
tech-housey, with some techno and breakbeat in the middle. Basically, when
we DJ, we go everywhere: we’ll throw on whatever works to both get people
moving and create a real listening experience at the same time.”
Soundsystem’s DJ-mix disc also features a stripped-down club mix of Hybrid’s
latest single “Formula of Fear,” which reflects of how the band’s famous
live show—hailed everywhere from festivals spanning Coachella to Glastonbury—has
evolved a new creative direction. “It’s the first step to what our next
artist album will sound like,” Truman explains. In addition to Charlotte
James, Hybrid’s touring lineup includes guitarist Peter DiStefano (of Porno
For Pyros fame); bassist Tim Hutton (also known for his work with Ian Brown,
Prodigy, and Groove Armada); and programmer/producer John Graham (also famed
for his studio aliases Quivver and Tilt). “The next album is really drawing
on the strengths on the band members,” Healings explains. “Playing live,
we’ve got up to eight people improvising and playing lines on our tracks,
and we wanted to continue that vibe. Therefore, we’re recording the new
album first as a band, then we’ll electronically destroy it and make it our
own—‘Hybrid’ it, if you know what I mean.”
Hybrid are no strangers to working with notable musicians. In addition to
Julee Cruise, Wide Angle featured collaborations with the likes of Chrissie
Hynde; Hybrid’s second album, 2003’s Morning Sci-Fi, was energized by two
tracks featuring legendary New Order bassist Peter Hook; as well, their last
full-length, 2006’s I Choose Noise, was spotlit by an appearance by alt-rock
guru Perry Farrell. Such high-profile alliances highlight Hybrid’s devotion
to real songwriting as the ultimate goal, setting them apart from the
majority of electronic/dance producers. “Even if we do a club record, it has
to have a song-based chorus,” Healings clarifies. “It has to do something—it
can’t just be beat programming.” Then again, defying expectations has been
what Hybrid has all about since the beginning: true to its name, the band
functions as an umbrella under which Healings and Truman can fuse their
different interests. “I think you have to go beyond being just a club act,”
Healings says. “We think of ourselves as producers, film scorers, sound
designers, songwriters, and a real live band. If we were just DJs, we’d get
bored very quickly.” Indeed, both Soundsystem’s mixes and Hybrid’s new
material reflect just how diverse and vital the sphere of electronic music
has become. “Music is so clashing right now, and it’s glorious,” Truman
concludes. “It’s an exciting time for music—everything’s wide open.”

prominent album by two of the worlds leading cutting edge trance DJs and believe
it to be one of the most exciting mix albums we have released to date".

EQ’s Balance presents Electric series is back after a
short hiatus with another exciting instalment, this time mixed by Australian DJ
and connoisseur Ben Korbel, Episode 3 won’t disappoint those fans expecting
nothing less than cutting edge underground dance music, as it showcases a
seamless fusion of deep house and techno expertly mixed by one of Australia’s
leading DJs.
To say this release has been a long time coming for Ben Korbel is an
understatement. Electric_03 is his debut mix proper and it’s a decade in the
making. Ben’s peerless sense of lineage, his irrepressible passion for a great
tune and his impeccable programming and mixing are all a given; what you get
here is warmth, soul and a humane groove that lacks in the click-and-drag age.
From the first flutters of Luciano, through the liquid funk of Der Dritte Raum
to the classic stabs and washes of LFO this mix provides a consumate selection
of the finest producers from the underground house and techno scene, also
including along the way the likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Swayzak, Pikaya, Rob
Mello and more…
If you’ve ever heard Ben Korbel play, you’ll have no doubt strained vocal chords
or twisted cheek muscles bouncing around like a sweaty beach ball to one of his
impeccably delirious sets. Complementing Ben on his expertise at any time is
always met with unbridled humility but those who’ve met him know not to be
perplexed if he calls you Paddle Pop lion then chases you down the street with a
face full of clothes pegs. It is, quite simply, how the lad rolls…
Not around quite as long as the Paddle Pop lion, but equally brown eyed and
bearded, Ben Korbel has been illuminating DJ booths for nigh on a decade. Back
when most selectors were throwing around bad Italo disco and Jason Nevins
remixes of The Vengaboys, Ben was crafting unique sonic tangents (influenced by
French Horn abuse and the Northern Exposure mixes equally) that immediately made
him stand out.
His unique brand of Future Techno has slowly evolved into a genre unto itself, a
sound that uses classic European techno, vintage progressive, crisp neo-electro
and deep driving house as its bricks and mortar. Striking a chord with clubbers,
promoters and selectors, He’s gone from headlining legendary Sydney parties like
Sweetchilli and Sounds On Sunday to supporting international heavy-weights like
Sasha and Danny Tenaglia to playing revered clubs like Space, Weekend Club and
The Cross all the while leaving flailing limbs and Muppet grins in his wake.
A DJ set at the hands of Ben Korbel is a pleasure in any music lover’s books. He
brings with him the highest level of professionalism, coupled with a raw passion
for what he does. That is why he has been, and will continue to be one of
Australia’s premier league DJs.

Josh Gabriel’s releases “Tone Program” on his brand new
Different Pieces label. The release also features a rather excellent remix by
Sweden’s Style Of Eye.
With “Tone Program” Josh Gabriel explores his highly individual musical palette
and alternative influences. This is another taste of the future as this is the
second single release from his forthcoming debut artist album (“Summit” at the
end of 2007 being the first). “Tone Program” is a bit undefinable, evoking a
response from first listen to heavy rotation. It’s fresh and innovative, yet
uniquely familiar, as Gabriel layers the track with vintage 80’s synths from the
techy beginning a deep musical climax. Add punchy melody twists that will keep
you on the edge of your seat, or more realistically on the dancefloor hands
pumping and wide eyed.
The release package includes a reinterpretation of the track by deeply respected
Style of Eye. This version is quite unique, starting in a minimal space and soon
reaching an unusual breakdown crescendo that makes you wonder what adventure you
are about to embark on, before hitting home with intense power.
“Tone Program” is the perfect follow-up to Gabriel’s massive critically
acclaimed release “Summit,” singled out by DJ Magazine as the No.12 Top Single
of 2007. Currently Gabriel is putting the finishing touches to his first
full-length solo artist album. Be prepared to be surprised! Having toured
America for the first half of 2008, Josh is now kicking off a European tour and
is road testing all his new material.

Jon O´Bir is one of
those talented young producers who took the dance scene by storm. In 2002
when Jon O´Bir captured dance scenes attention by winning Passion´s M8
Magazine´s DJ Mix competition he appeared constantly on BBC´s Radio 1 for
Fergie´s Essential Selection or Armin van Buuren´s ´A State of Trance´ show.
This helped propellling his name to a wider audience. After a sensational ´Essential
Mix´ for BBC in 2006, Radio 1 offered Jon a slot on ´The Residency´
alongside Eddie Halliwell and Nic Fanciulli, broadcast live on the UK´s most
listened to radio station.
He also became involved in Radio 1 events such as ´One Big Weekend´ in
Sunderland or it´s ´10 years in Ibiza´ live from Space, Ibiza.
Nowadays, next to travelling the world as DJ, the former Godskitchen
resident shows excellent taste and instinct for dancefloor destroyers as
label manager for Conspiracy Recordings, is hosting his very own radio show
´Ways & Means´ all around the globe and proves an outstanding producing
talent! With incredible clean and energetic sound of tracks like ´Ways &
Means´, ´Sparc´ or ´Sunrise´ Jon gained Paul van Dyk´s attention and signed
the album right from the spot to his label VANDIT Records. With the rising
popularity of his productions, radio show and record label while still under
25, the future looks very bright for Jon O´Bir. More

The King Unique/Junior
revival continues on Curfew with one of the biggest tracks of 2001, remixed
and refreshed for an ‘08 comeback. Aah yeah…
“Obscene, dirty, filthy, immoral”, a chant that echoed across clubland
throughout that year of tribal beats, dark ‘waaaarp’ noises and Danny
Tenaglia’s DJ booth torch-antics. But fuck the nostalgia and get these two
superb new remixes in your laptop!
Nu-improved-techno Fergie does it again for KU with an up-to-the-minute
remix of “Dirty” that is just a pure club crusher. Barking tough techy beats
and twisting arpeggiated chords make for a rough-assed combination of
heads-down and head-twisting. James Zabiela and Steve Lawler are among the
lucky few hammering their early copies already. Paolo Mojo’s mix takes
things in an entirely different direction, stripping out everything except
an old-school 909 beat and a hypnotic swaying bassline that’ll test the subs
in any club. Then it’s just a slow-burning pressure build all the way, in
the style that’s rapidly becoming a Mojo trademark.
The re-mastered 2001 Original is made available digitally for the first
time, along with Detroit legend Kevin Saunderson’s E-Dancer workout from the
original Junior release. A huge record at the time for a DJ Hawtin or
Snawtin or something – whatever happened to him?

Artists such as Chris
Fortier are inextricably linked to underground dance music, and genuinely push
the sound forward. Fortier’s critically acclaimed 2007 debut artist album “As
Long As The Moment Exists”, written in airport waiting lounges and 30,000 feet
in the air, consisting of 15 stunning tracks ranging from air freshener for the
ears electronica, through to techno to frown to, saw him receive global critical
acclaim.
Now, in 2008, “As Long As The Moment Exists” gets the extreme make over
treatment by some of Chris’ all time musical heroes alongside some of his
favourite new artists. The list of artists involved in this stunning collection
of remixes and musical visions reads like a roll call of underground music’s
who’s who; past, present and future: Bruno Pronsato, Someone Else, Pheek, Joey
Beltram, Mark Henning, Ed Davenport, Joel Mull, Error Error and Patrick Zigon to
name just a few.
EP1 from this special remix project features four artists that need little in
the way of introduction: Error Error, Bruno Pronsato, Perc and Ink & Needle.
Error Error, aka Denis Karimani (Remute) & Pelle Buys (Einmusic) deliver house,
rave and everything in between in this 12 minute interpretation of Sunday Is A
Travel Day. Charted at #1 by John Digweed in March.
Bruno Pronsato, hot on the heels of his 2nd artist album described his remix of
“As Long As The Moment Exists” as very relaxing. We think it’s massive-passive.
Deep subs and spooky textures peppered with intricate percussion and arranged
into slick set-opener style.
If Tech-House was a company, Ali 'Perc' Wells would be on the board of directors.
He's turned in a strictly business mix of “Don't Hide What You Believe”,
complete with rollin' sub bass, robo-groove and dubby percussion...AND manages
to maintain the mood from Chris' original. A 3am bomb...
Last but by no means least, under the counter project Ink & Needle, with recent
appearances on compilations like John Digweed’s Transitions volume 4 and Balance
013 mixed by triumvirate SOS, round off the EP with a top-shelf rub of “Sunday
Is A Travel Day”.
“I am proud to re-invigorate my debut artist album with new, fresh
interpretations by some of the coolest producers around. This project will
consist of a series of EP releases culminating LP/CD release collection.” -
Chris Fortier
A vinyl devotee, Chris refuses to give in to the so called digital revolution
and as a touring DJ is still more than happy to discuss excess baggage with
airline staff. So partnering with the world’s leading underground dance
distributor, Intergroove Germany, to ensure the best of these works find their
way into the hands of the vinyl buying community first, seemed the right thing
to do.
Digital evangelists and vinyl doomsayers, stay calm – each EP will be made
available exclusively at dance music’s digital mecca, Beatport.com, a fortnight
after each vinyl release, and will include two bonus digital only tracks that
aren’t a couple of token digital-only mixes by a couple of nobodies that is so
often the case today. Start thinking Ink & Needle, Joey Beltram and Mark Broom;
then you’re on the right track.
Coming Soon….
EP 2. EQG12040 1. As Long As The Moment Exists (Ed Davenport Remix) 2. Quote
Unquote (Mark Henning’s Out Of Tune Remix) Digital Bonus Tracks: 3. Belt Seat
Fasten (Habersham’s Lobotomy Remix) 4. Deviated Septum (‘One Of Them’ Remix)
EP 3. EQG12042 1. Believe (Pheek’s Reconstructed Remix) 2. Believe (Someone
Else’s Vox Mix) Digital Bonus Tracks: 3. Believe. Saint (iBot’s Senkeisen Edit)
4. Believe (Someone Else’s Beats Mix)
EP 4. EQG12043 1. Portion Control (Joel Mull Remix) 2. Don’t Hide What You
Believe (Patrick Zigon Remix) Digital Bonus Tracks: 3. B-Dub (Mark Broom Remix)
4. Deviated Septum (Joey Beltram Remix)
But wait, there’s more… A digital only EP, consisting of four yet to be revealed
remixes, and a limited edition CD LP comprising of the best selling mixes
between vinyl and digital, along with some exclusive re-rubs of classics by
Chris Fortier, will then be released to round up the package.
Keep your ears to the (under)ground...

The Logic Of Pleasure is Blank & Jones ninth artist
album and the first collection of original material since their 2004 Monument
album.
Blank & Jones materialised as recording artists in 1997 with a single called
Sunrise and since then, as a combination of DJ’s and musicians, travellers and
dreamers, party planners and thinkers, movers and shakers, businessmen and
pleasure seekers, chill-out emperors and rave gurus, lo-tempo sweethearts and
energetic pop masterminds, trance specialist and dance heroes they have had
numerous hit singles and albums in their home country of Germany and success in
the UK with the anthems Cream, After Love and The Nightfly.
Blank & Jones, loving to work with great singers and other minds from different
musical worlds, have made, mixed and arranged electric mood music in
collaboration with such individual talents as The Cure’s magical Robert Smith,
the uncompromising poet provocateur Anne Clark, the hyper emotional Canadian
singer Sarah McLachlan and Propaganda’s surreal chanteuse Claudia Bruecken.
Their latest collection The Logic Of Pleasure continues their tradition of
teaming up with unique singers and temperaments and features some tantalising
collaborations. The combination of Blank & Jones and the enigmatic, iconic,
tender voiced Bernard Sumner, of Joy Division, New Order and Electronic, is
naturally a dream, as Sumner’s fragile yet bouyant melancholia slips beautifully
into, and out of, Blank & Jones very own electronic sense of the epic. Blank &
Jones also continue their relationship with Dusseldorf and London’s Claudia
Bruecken. As always she fits perfectly into the Blank & Jones human-machine
scheme of things, her dramatic voice and their dramatic dynamic totally in
synchronicity. Confirming their inspired eclectic taste and their love for
experimentation, Blank & Jones also team up with audacious New York
electro-erotica torch singer Vanessa Daou, cult electro-pop classicists
Trademark and deviant German pop singer Bobo of Bobo in White Wooden Houses (she
appeared on dark rock group Rammstein’s 1997 song Angel.) Also included is Blank
& Jones remix of Canadian electro-popsters Stars homage to the afterhours, The
Night Starts Here.
The Logic Of Pleasure has itself been mixed in collaboration with Bob Kraushaar,
the Pet Shop Boys engineer of choice for the past two decades. As always Blank &
Jones discriminating, open minded musical judgement is impeccable, and they’re
forever committed to looking into dark eccentric corners, as well as the obvious
lit up pop places, for inspiration and surprising potential partnerships.
Blank & Jones pursuit of the esoteric continues through to the artwork for The
Logic Of Pleasure conceived by journalist, record label founder, pop star,
broadcaster and social commentator Paul Morley, credited for being co-founder of
80’s pop label ZTT, a member of art poppers The Art Of Noise and guiding Frankie
Goes To Hollywood to global stardom, amongst a plethora of other successes.
