DDJA 2004 – Amager Bio, 5th of February 2004
It’s that time of the year where the Danish DJ´s are celebrating each other and it's the 4th time that the Danish DJ Awards (DDJA) is being held and slowly their award show gettin' better and better, but there is still a long long way to measure up to standards. The show was un-tight, the sound was bad, you had trouble hearing the presenters at the stage and there was no music supporting the prize-winners in walking the long way from the VIP-area to the stage. There were not enough presenters as some were cancelled so the host of the night, Rene Dif (ex. Aqua member) had to do a lot of them. Well, much to our surprise he was arrogant, not of much fun and made an ass out of himself (on purpose or maybe not!!!), especially when he did a playback scratch set.
The "live" performances was a mixture of music styles, which was good against being bored among the many prize giving’s, but definitely not acts that were lifting the show - following acts entered the stage: Gunther & The Sunshine Girls (how can this man take himself seriously), Bombay Rockers, Infernal, two hip hop acts (Jokeren and Ufo Yepha), Morjac and Örtz that performed their “Secret Garden” - a track made together with Brother Brown.
The big prize winner of the night was Rune RK / Artificial Funk – he was nominated for 7 awards and got 5, including Upfront DJ of year, Artist of the year, Remix of the year, Producer of the year and Favourite track of the year for his track “Calabria” - a hit track that with no doubt had a big influence on him winning all the awards – strange what one track can do for you.
We're still wondering why some of following great Danish DJ's wasn't a part of the final run towards the awards: Kjeld Tolstrup, Katrine Ring, Michael Splint, Michael Parsberg, LP Støvring, Nicka, Dexta, Bjørn Svin, Madvid, Krede, Opiate, Asle, Atle aka Brother Brown, Daniel etc.

Club of the year was “Laekker” and the Danish upfront release was Anders Trentemoller “Trentemoller EP”. The best international DJ was Junior Jack, well, this is unbelievable as he was nominated along with Paul Van Dyk and Tiësto – we're stunned of the pour taste that the Danish mainstream DJ´s have, but that might explain the sad situation the Danish Club scene, as well as the Danes bad mainstream music taste. The mainstream DJ´s only follows what the mass media and commercial labels lead them to believe in and they really don’t dare to make their own choices, of cause with the exception of the upfront and underground DJ´s. Let’s hope that the 5th edition of DDJA next year will be better as well as bring more focus on the underground DJ´s that so surely deserve to be recognized. More
