Short impression of the
night The first Okyo night in 2003
was on the 24th of January, where Nick Warren (the man behind Way
Out West) was headlining. Nicka and Dexta kicked off the warm-up set at
23.00 with the fantastic Apollo 440 “Liquid Cool” track and immediately the
tone was set for a night going back and forth in time. As always the
graphical trademark of Okyo was in place, two large projectors were
projecting images, logos, movie clips on the backdrop on the stage. Vega’s
main room was quickly filling with people and at 01.00 Nick Warren went on
stage.
His 3 hour set was a varied trip through break beat,
progressive and pumping old classics. From a great mix of Groove Armada’s “Superstyling”,
Hardfloor’s remix of Mory Kante “Yeke Yeke”, to new tracks from Futurshock,
Planet Funk “Who Said” and Gus Gus “David” in the Daren Emerson remix. The
crowd moved and the highlights came when Nick played Junkie XL “Beauty Never
Fades”, Atlas “Compass Error” in the fantastic Tarrentella:Redanka remake,
and a remix of Sasha’s “Wavy Gravy”. At 04.00 Nick Warren closed his set
with an old track from Jam and Spoon “Find Me”, a marvellous way to end a
set and to emphasis that some tracks are timeless.
Nicka and Dexta took over and played until 05.00
where they also treated the crowd with Underworld’s “Dark and Long”. No
doubt that this night once more proved that Okyo is the place to be if you
want to move your feet to progressive house music and have a great time,
just ask one of the 700 people who attended. |
