Filmpalast - Funky German

Every known composer and producer has a reason to compose or produce: to protest war, to promote world peace, to fight poverty, to make money … “Filmpalast”-producer Dirk Schilling („King Candy“, „Motorsheep“, „Bandaloop“) does not have such lofty goals.

When Dirk Schilling woke up on January 1st, 2000, he quickly found out that the world had not foundered, that indeed none of the anticipated catastrophes had occurred, in short that the much-dreaded Millennium night was over. On the contrary, life felt good. He thankfully fell back into his cushion and began thinking. The old century had provided him with so much good that he asked himself how to return at least a little of his happiness to the people of the new century. “World Peace”, especially seen as a first step, seemed to be out of reach and so Dirk decided to take it one step at a time and to start by giving as many people as possible a single happy moment …

A happy moment calls for friends and so Dirk buzzed Bibi Abel (Supreme Machine), Sarah Doering (Bandaloop), Birgit Fischer (Motorsheep) and Harry Blaine, assembled his equipment in his bedroom to make sure his tracks would absorb maximum intimacy – and produced his part of a happy future, his single happy moment – the song “I Want”.

... Ever since “Filmpalast’s” “I Want” has given numerous people on European dance floors many happy moments. From Roskilde Festival to „Psycho Thrill“, from the CSD Opening Party to the Battery Park Festival and many more. And when Hope recordings/Bristol decided to license the song, the British Underground Dance scene embraced the track, too. And then something happened that Dirk Schilling would never regret: he could not stop but go on … and so he produced

The second release “Istanbul” did not hit like a bomb but like the smile of a girl newly in love. With remixes from some of Europe’s finest, e.g. DJ Remy, Loafer, Brother Brown, Capoeira Twins, and compiled by Timo Maas and Paul van Dyk, “Filmpalast’s“ soulful, deep, and driving dance tracks conquered the places where you expect to hear excellent sound: the festivals, the clubs, and … the hearts. When Dirk realized that he could reach out from his bedroom and touch so many people all over the world, he did the only reasonable thing: he produced.

So here are 11 brand new songs marking “Filmpalast’s” point that happiness is there to be taken. From funky minimal House to a relaxed atmosphere and on to kicking TechHouse, to end with the wish to hug someone, to dance, to make love, or to do everything at the same time. – Raise the curtain for “Filmpalast” and have fun with the show!
