John 00 Fleming - I have a soft spot.....

From England comes the man with the golden touch in progressive trance. John 00 Fleming started his career back in 1984 where he grew up with the dance scene in the UK, but lung cancer stopped his career. For many years John had to struggle in and out of hospitals, but still with a burning desire to make it thought his illness and make it as a DJ and producer. After he recovered from his illness, he rebuilt his DJ career from scratch and has today a residency at Golden he also has regular gigs at Gatecrasher and Gods Kitchen in the UK and other venues in the rest of the world. He has also released a long string of remixes and tracks of his own. John 00 Fleming has a license to thrill – and thrilled you will be when you listen to his music.

Listening to your music and sets I can hear Goa trance influences?

- I have a soft spot for progressive trance and also for Goa trance but not as much for the psychedelic trance. I am a big fan of Astral Projection and Infected Mushrooms. A true 00 Fleming set has a lot of progressive trance in it, but not when I am playing in the UK, there I have to play more commercial and more uplifting but still underground. I feel a little restricted. I have just been in Australia where I could play a full 00 Fleming set – it was great. I love doing a long set – 4 to 5 hours so I can go on a journey with the audience.

What are you working on for the moment?

- I have released Euphoria Progressive Trance that is more a home listening CD – it is a little more laid back than For Your Ears Only which I released last year. I am working on a “full on” album, nearly like a Goa CD, due out later this year. I am leaving the REACT label, I am going with the Euphoria label, they are great and they can give me the support I need. I have done a couple of remixes – one for Perfecto and one for Xtravaganza – they are going to be released very soon. I am also working hard with my own label JOOF that I started back in 1999.

The double 0 does that come from 007?

- Yes - A DJ gave me that name a long time ago – my name is very similar to Ian Fleming the author of James Bond. So I got the double 0 in my name, and I have had it since then.

Playing around the world – what about Denmark?

- I have never been to Denmark but I would love to go.

What do you see yourself as – producer, DJ?

- I am known as an artist, more than a producer, as apposed to a remixer. You know Sister Bliss from Faithless, more like her, getting more involved in stuff like that. I am making my own sound, I am using a lot of hours searching for records and sounds; I am a man on a mission.
