Label profile: Global Underground
From Newcastle in England comes the very successful Boxed label; it is James Todd and Andy Horsefield who are the masterminds behind this force in modern dance music. They have from the start released the very highly critical-acclaimed and respected DJ mix compilation album series – Global Underground. The DJ’s behind the series are huge internationally, they are so far; Sasha(2), John Digweed(3), Nick Warren(5), Dave Seaman(2), Danny Tenaglia(2), Paul Oakenfold (2), the late Tony De Vit(2) and Darren Emerson(2) who is the latest to give us his point of view on what is hot on the dance floor right now from Global Underground #. They provide exclusive mixes from the corners of the world and together with a package including some of the coolest photographies in dance music, they deliver the ultimate compilation series. Many of the compilations in the series have sold over 200.000 copies, and are mostly sold overseas. The Boxed boys want to do more, they have invested in the future of dance music, and with the NuBreed series they have shown the way. On NuBreed they have so far released albums with progressive House DJ’s Anthony Pappa, Danny Howells, Steve Lawer, Sander Kleinenberg, and have just released the latest with Lee Burridge. They have also set up a series for Seb Fontaine. His Prototype series give us a unique vision of the English super DJ and his music style. So far they have released 4 compilations in the Prototype series. The Global Underground label has also been used for promoting venues, gigs and tours around the world. The first time Global Underground came to Denmark was when Sander Kleinenberg played at the Okyo party at the Lille Vega venue in Copenhagen in April 2001. From Boxed boys comes also the Quad, Coded and Halogen vinyl labels, and they have also released three sample CD’s from the Global Underground series, entitle; Destinations, Arrivals and Departures.
