The next time you feel tired, spare a thought for
Pete Gooding, a man who's been behind the decks at Cafe Mambo in Ibiza for
eight hours a night for the last seven years. Pete's unique quality is
that he's equally capable of rocking main rooms as backrooms, bars or even
a chilled terrace. Unmistakably Pete Gooding's dj'ing is a little bit
special.
Last summer has been his most successful yet, combining his marathon sets
at Cafe Mambo with his residencies at Four::Four at El Divino alongside
Dave Seaman, Renaissance at Amnesia, and Cream in Mallorca. This summer
also saw Pete playing for Radio 1 on their Ibiza weekend for the second
year running as well as a guest mix on Pete Tong's Essential Selection
Show. The season ended on a real high when Pete won the highly acclaimed
award for "Best Ibiza DJ 2002" at the Pacha Awards.
Over the last seven Years Pete's has become an Ibizan institution because
of those very special nightly sunset journeys, which has led to him
compiling the award winning Café Mambo compilations for the past five
years. Throughout each summer he has written his own column in DJ
Magazine's monthly Ibiza supplement in addition to continuing as singles
reviewer for the magazine.
Pete's started Dj'ing in his home town of Birmingham, where he combined
running his own record shop "Vinyl Matters" for over three years and
promoting his own night for eight years with partner Phil Docherty of
Futureshock. He then went on to hold residencies at the cities best clubs
and bars. In 1996 he joined good friend Steve Lawler as resident DJ at
Cafe Mambo.
Pete's career has not been limited to the White Isle, on his return at the
end of each summer, Pete forfeits his right to a well earned rest by
playing the length and breadth of the U.K. and also tirelessly touring
further a field, playing in over twenty five countries worldwide.
The buzz away from the Balearic's on Pete has started to gain volume
following the release of his first mix compilation "Global Beats" on Tide.
His production career also started when he released his debut single with
studio partner Adam Routh as "Drax & Gooding" with "Twister / Guam" on
Renaissance's underground label U.S.R. in late 2001. This was followed up
late 2002 with "Straight to the Floor / I Love You" also as "Drax &
Gooding" and a string of remixes for Hooj Choons and Positiva.
Early 2003 will see the release of "Pete Gooding - Words" on Fuju, which
has received heavy support from Pete Tong and Steve Lawler all summer off
cdr. Pete's also been working on producing chill out material with Steve
Lawler's producer, Washington as "Marine." Their first track "Horizon"
will see the light of day on the next Cafe Mambo compilation released
summer 2003. |
