FC Kahuna Q & A

After a blast of a concert at the Metropol Stage on Roskilde Festival 2003, I got hold of the two FC Kahuna lads; Dan and Jon for a short interview.

Q: How was the show?
A: Very enjoyable, it was great, really good crowd, good sound. Overall very good.

Q: Is this the first time that you are in Denmark?
A: Yes as FC Kahuna, but Dan has been here a couple of times as a DJ.

Q: As FC Kahunah how is it to work together?
A: It’s easy and difficult – depends on what day of the week it is. We have known each other for many years.

Q: Your sound is different for what else is coming out of UK at the moment.
A: You think – that’s good, because that is what we are aiming for, we want to do something slightly different.

Q: Where do get your inspiration from?
A: From the f…. hart. Every band we ever liked, influences come from everywhere - we grew up with rock, acid house and shoe gazing. We don’t want to sound like everybody else.

Q: How do you see the dance scene evolving?
A: The dance scene has evolved beyond any reconnection to me these days. So I don’t really see a dance scene anymore, I don’t see ourselves part of any dance scene.

Q: But a track like “Glitterball” and “Hayling” has been taken to the dance scene?
A: It just got this electronic element to it. It wasn’t meant to appeal to dance music fans in any way – it’s just peaces of music.

Q: I see your album “Machine Says Yes” as a real album and not just as a collection of electronic tracks.
A: Yeah it’s an album. It was what we set out to do. We are not interested in disposable 12” we are interested in making a bit of music that we feel happy sitting down listening to from start to finish. On our new album we will work more as a band, now we got a drum and a bass player.
