Matt Darey - Beautiful trance

Matt Darey earned his place in the annals of club culture by producing and remixing some of dance music’s finest moments, including Lost Tribe, Tekara, Li Kwan, M3 & Sunburst (productions) and Grace, Westbam, Three Drives, ATB, Binary Finary, Tilt & Delerium (remixes).

Mash Up is Matt’s main production project featuring long-term collaborator Marcella Woods on vocals. The partnership got off to a flying start with the release of Liberation (Temptation – Fly Like An Angel) which reached #19 in the UK national chart followed by the #21 hit Beautiful. Matt has just released “U Shine On” / “Moody”.

The aliases may change, but there is one constant in Matt Darey’s production – quality. He spearheaded the UK trance explosion, without taking the genre up a musical cul-de-sac and has always remained one of its most credible stars.

Listen to the interview here. The interview was done at Club Escape in Denmark on the 7th of June 2003. A day that Matt has a very specific memory of. See comments in the next paragraph – it’s taken from I-DJ Magazine, and its not good publicity for the Danish club scene.

...And whats the worst club you're ever been to?
"I had the worst day of my life at a club in Denmark called Escape. It's owned by this Danish biker gang and when we got there, there was a hundred motorbikes outside and about 70 people inside! And the day had getting there... I lost my passport, I mssed my plane, I had to pay for a new flight,so I wasn´t earning anything... just a lousy day"

...And what was your worst ever gig or DJ experience?
"That has to be the Denmark thing. That really was terrible, I think I'd have done better playing trash metal, but I didn't have any on me! You could tell it was a heavy metal club really and they'd just decided to try and put a dance night on."
