10 Turntables Nightmare
10 Turntables Nightmare features; 10 turntables, 5
mixers and the combined mixing talents of David Duriez, F Communications's
Llorca, Alexkid, Jori Hulkkonen and Tuomas Salmela. At The Metropol Stage
Saturday night
at the Roskilde Festival 2003 they played the finest techno and French tech-house for a
massive audience. I talked to Llorca about the idea behind the 10
Turntables Nightmare.
One per Country
It’s pretty difficult to find a common time where everybody is at the same
place at the right time. We have to talk to everyone before accepting a
gig. Basically this concept is very clear; we only do one per country, so
today we are in Denmark and it will be the only one that we are doing in
Denmark. We wanted it to be special, what people will see tonight they
wont see again if they don’t travel.
Rules on stage
We have rules about what to do when we are on the stage, so it’s not a
total chaos. The basic idea is energy one of us can go to some other kind
of music, but always trying to keep the spirit of the 5 guys playing
energy tracks. We are so happy doing it - this is the fourth time we are
doing it and we are so happy to be together and to play the music we love.
True to our roots
We try to stay as true to our roots as possible. But it’s true that we do
things and play things that we normally don’t. On stage I have a
microphone and I scream and shout, like “raise your hands – come on” stuff
like this. When I play as a DJ I don’t do things like this. It’s also a
good way for us to push our own limits. When you are playing at a big
festival in front of so many people, you have to play much harder than you
use to. Tonight I will for sure play some techno stuff.
