Tiesto - Uplifting trance is  finished
Dutch super producer and DJ Tijs Verwest, better known as DJ Tiësto has for a long time thrilled his audiences with euphoric trance sets and brilliant remixes, such as his remix of Delerium “The Silence”. He is also known under the synonyms Kamaya Painters, Vimana, Gouryella, and has over years released the successful Magik mix compilation series. Now he is ready with his smashing debut album “In My Memory”. Clubbing talked to Tiësto about the long awaited release and what the future holds for him.

We spoke about a year ago, a lot has happen since then?
-Yeah a lot has happen, the big difference from then is that I am now a fulltime artist, so it is not just playing records but also mixing and producing music. I also get much more satisfaction out of being a DJ now, I can play a lot of my own tunes. It is the logical next step for me. I think that a DJ has to go this way in the future; he has to make his own music if he wants to break through.

That is a tall order to expect of an up and coming DJ?
- Yes it is, and it is also sad because a lot DJ talent get lost, most of the DJs that is breaking though is just producers, and no offence you never said woo they played a great set. It is also bad for the scene. All the big DJs such as Paul Oakenfold and Sasha started as DJs and afterwards did productions, and you can hear the different. You also see when a good producer starts DJ’ing he doesn’t produce that well afterwards, he is influenced by the crowd – he thinks he has to do the track in a certain way to please them. They don’t have any time because they are playing every weekend.

What can the listeners experience when listening to your new album “In My Memorry”?
You can experience different moods, more or less all the moods I play during a night. There are two tracks that are in the Café Del Mar style with vocals. I have also done a track with Junkie XL, it is kind of progressive, but it still has the energy. “Flight 643” is there, and “Suburban Train” that is uplifting trance and then there is “In My Memory” with vocals in the style of Chicane. So there are a lot of different influences on the album, it is also for me a new step in my career, on a mix album you always know what to expect, one line - one build up.

How would you describe you music style?
- I have my own style and I stand for credible music, it is credible trance, it is not progressive it is not commercial, it is not euro trance, there is a very thin line between what I play. I invented the word credible trance that describes my music style. The styles are coming together and the uplifting stuff is still there, but I think that the uplifting trance is almost finished now, because how many melodies can you make.

Are you and Ferry Corsten going to do a Gouryella album?
Yea - Well I am in a dilemma with Gouryella, at that time is was great, but on the second and third single I felt it was more Ferry, he was the big hero at that time, and he overruled me sometimes, and he has not always been right. I have changed my sound, but he hasn’t change as much. It would be interesting to do a new Gouryella track; maybe something new will come out of it.

What is the best track or remix you have done?
- Well of course the remix of Delerium “The Silence”, not just because it is a great track, but also what it did for me, it gave me a push in the right direction.

What will the future bring?
The single “Suburban Train” has been released, the album is out in October and I have done a remix for the Dave Mathew Band, I have also remixed the new Kosheen single “Hungry” and the upcoming Faithless single “Tarantula”. After that I am going back working on my own tracks.
